Basic Lesson Plan: Teaching Honesty to Kids

This lesson plan is to give you an idea of how to practically implement teaching honesty.

However, it is vital that we as parents are always looking for opportunities to teach. Sometimes we fall into the trap of letting things slide because we’re busy, or tired, or xyz. The truth of the matter is that honesty is an issue of the heart.

We as parents need to be having regular discussions with our children over this topic and making sure to correct dishonesty whenever it occurs.

Objective:

Help children understand the importance of honesty, recognize its value in relationships, and learn how to apply it in daily life.

Materials Needed:

• Bible
• Paper and pencils
• A small jar with slips of paper (truth or lie scenarios)
• Craft supplies for a “Truth Shield”

#1 Introduction (5-10 minutes)

• Ask: What does it mean to be honest?
• Discuss the difference between honesty and dishonesty.
• Read Proverbs 12:22 together and explain that honesty delights God.

#2 Bible Story (10-15 minutes)

• Share the story of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11) to show the serious consequences of dishonesty.
