Welcome to the much-anticipated curriculum reveal for my son’s upcoming school year. These are our 4th grade homeschool curriculum choices for 2024.
In this final curriculum reveal for 2024, I’m thrilled to share the materials we’ve chosen as he enters fourth grade.
If you’re new here, I’m Christine, a homeschooling mom of three, and we’re embarking on our fourth year of homeschooling.

Meet the Crew
Before we dive into the resources, let me provide a bit of context.
My three kiddos are aged nine, seven, and five for the majority of this year. This particular update is all about my eldest and his individual subjects—Math, Language Arts, Handwriting, Spelling, and Literature.
Our family also engages in group subjects, which I’ve detailed in a separate video.
4th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices
This year we’re sticking with a lot of what worked last year. We found a good groove and I didn’t really feel the need to shake it up much.
Language Arts: Sticking with the Good and the Beautiful
Starting with Language Arts, we’re continuing our journey with The Good and The Beautiful.
Last year, we completed Level 2, and this year, we’re venturing into Level 3.
While I appreciate the wholesomeness of the literature, I found myself yearning for a bit more depth. So, to supplement, we’ve decided to continue with this curriculum and enhance literature in areas where we desire more exploration.
The flexibility and the ability to print at home for free are key draws for us.
We have used this Language Arts curriculum for many years in some capacity or another and it has proven to be a great resource for my son.
Another Year with The Good and the Beautiful Handwriting
For Handwriting, my son is embracing his second year of cursive writing with The Good and The Beautiful.
While it might not be his favorite subject, he’s shown surprising strength in cursive, and I’m excited to see his progress in the year ahead.
We have used this handwriting curriculum for years. It is my favorite by far.
I have all the PDFs from Pre K through to Level 4 which has made it very cost effective.
Math Mastery: Third-Grade Math with Confidence
Mathematics takes center stage with Math with Confidence by Kate Snow. We’re tackling Grade 3, and the plan is to seamlessly transition to Grade 4 as soon as it becomes available.
The curriculum has proven fantastic, and I’m using it across all my kids this year. Its affordability and accessibility, either as a PDF download or in physical form, makes it a standout choice.
My son is naturally strong at maths and he loves playing the games. This curriculum is great at pushing him forward without skipping past anything important.
Abeka Spelling
Moving on to Spelling, we’ve found success with Abeka. Currently using Grade 1 spelling with ease, my son is doing well.
The plan is to continue building his confidence by moving into Grade 2 spelling when the time is right. Confidence is the key, and starting at a lower level has proven beneficial.
Literature
This year we’re using Sonlight Grade 3 Readers. While it comes with the joy of discovering new chapter books, I appreciate the independence it offers.
The kids read, and we engage in meaningful discussions afterward. Independent learning at its finest!
He did really well with the Sonlight Grade 2 readers and is excited for the increase in reading challenge this year.
Extracurriculars
We haven’t 100% decided on what my son will do this year. Options include continuing with gymnastics or transitioning to taekwondo.
My daughters, in the meantime, will explore ballet and art classes. The dynamics may shift throughout the year, and I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
Final Thoughts
With individual subjects sorted, I’m eagerly anticipating the academic year ahead.
My son is gradually embracing more independence in his studies, and I have high hopes for the progress he’ll make.
