Having a Christmas curriculum for your homeschool is a really fun way to school through the holiday season.
For us here in New Zealand, it is the winding down of the school year and a perfect time to relax the hardcore subjects and instead enjoy the festivities.
Many seasoned homeschoolers will attest to the fact that learning doesn’t solely come from workbooks.
In fact, most learning takes place through simple living.
Being able to step back from the typical homeschool days and just enjoy doing a Christmas curriculum together really is a joy.
We’ve done one Christmas curriculum thus far (which I’ll share below), but I wanted to offer you more than just that one.
I’ve also included the one that we’re planning on doing this year.

Christmas Curriculum Ideas for Your Homeschool
All of these Christmas curriculums are quite different from each other.
They also span different age groups.
Most can be altered to fit your family. At the very least, they can be used as a jumping-off point for a more in-depth study.
All of these units have been created by fellow homeschooling moms, so you can rest assured that they’ve been created with realistic expectations in mind.
A Year of Tales
First on the list is the homeschool Christmas curriculum I intend to use this coming Christmas season.
A Year of Tales is an incredible Charlotte Mason inspired curriculum aimed at the younger grades.
It is entirely based around the Beatrix Potter books and is so rich and full of goodness.
They offer both a preschool option and an elementary option.
They also offer a Christmas curriculum.
We are going to be using A Year of Tales for our enrichment studies next year and so using their Christmas curriculum at the end of this one seemed like a natural choice.
I’m so looking forward to the gentle pace it will offer as well as the beauty and richness that I know will be inside.
Gather ‘Round Christmas Unit

This is the Christmas unit that we completed last year and we really enjoyed it.
The Gather ‘Round curriculum is all about simplifying your homeschool curriculum so that you can teach almost all subjects together as a family.
While unit-based, it is also Charlotte Mason inspired and their Christmas unit comes with a workbook for several ability levels.
You’ll receive a teacher’s manual as well as several student handbook options.
Last year we did the pre-reader and if we were to do it again this year I’d move my son up to the early reader handbook.
I like that it can be used year after year without having to repurchase the curriculum.
This is the case if you choose the downloadable PDF but not if you choose the physical curriculum.
I use my Epson Ecotank printer to make this a really affordable option.

This Christmas unit is not intended to be a full curriculum, but it focuses on coming together as a family to make fun new traditions and focus on the birth of Christ.
The illustrations are wonderful and the activities fun.
If I had once complaint, it would be the number of typos. The company pushed this unit out quickly and unfortunately, you can tell that by the number of typos.
A Jan Brett Christmas!
If you’re looking for an affordable Christmas curriculum to do with your child aged pre-k-2nd grade, then this might be the perfect choice.
This Christmas unit is based on four Jan Brett books and is secular.
The books are:
- Gingerbread Baby
- The Twelve Days of Christmas
- The Wild Christmas Reindeer
- Who’s that Knocking on Christmas Eve?
If what you’re after is a booked-based curriculum that is lighthearted and for the younger grades, then this is a great option.
You can read more about it here.
The Night Before Christmas
Want to know a huge draw factor for this Christmas curriculum?
It is free.
Completely free to download and use with your children.
The Night Before Christmas covers most subjects and is full of fun Christmas activities and learning sheets to go along with The Night Before Christmas poem.
You’ll get full lesson plans and details instructions for the included activities.
This looks like fun and is something I’ll be tucking away to use in the future with my own kids.
The Nutcracker

Perhaps you’re not looking for a full Christmas homeschool curriculum but want to inject some seasonal study into your homeschool?
The Nutcracker music unit would be perfect!
It’ll take you through the study of The Nutcracker and includes everything you’ll need to conduct a unit study on the topic.
Again, this is one I’m setting aside to use in the future.
‘Twas The week Before Christmas

The Christmas Homeschool Bundle is designed to provide you with the perfect curriculum to use for the week before Christmas.
It is often a time when things are a little off schedule and there’s lots of excitement going on.
Both of those things can make it difficult for children to keep focused on their typical work.
Using this Christmas homeschool bundle will inject the fun that you need into your homeschool for the week before Christmas.
There is even content included for homeschool moms specifically.
I really love the thought behind this one.
A Gentle + Classical Christmas
This Christmas curriculum comes highly recommended by fellow homeschool moms.
A Gentle + Classical Christmas unit study really doesn’t feel like school at all and instead focuses on activities that promote family connection and the true meaning of Christmas.
It is faith-based and full of Scripture.
I own this curriculum as well and look forward to using it with my kids.
A Connected Christmas
This is another gentle Christmas curriculum that really allows for you to just slow down and enjoy the season with your children.
A Connected Christmas is available as a digital download and has been created with the intention of being used with your entire family.
Truth In the Tinsel
This is a really delightful Christmas curriculum for little ones. If you have children 7 and under Truth in the Tinsel is definitely worth considering.
It’s very affordable as a digital download and you can either buy the package deal or separate components.
This curriculum is set up as an advent and is focused on Scripture and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
Doing school work around the Christmas holidays can be challenging.
I love to use it as an opportunity to relax a bit with our homeschool and really focus on making strong connections with my children.
We have the rest of the year to focus on the more challenging subjects but there is never enough time to just be present and enjoy each other’s company.
I hope that these Christmas curriculum suggestions are helpful to you as you attempt to create a nurturing and fun homeschool experience for your family.
I’m always amazed and pleased to see homeschool moms providing unit studies like these because I know that they come from a place of love and a willingness to serve other homeschooling families.
