10 Legit Stay at Home Mom Jobs

Stay at home mom jobs are something that I’m very familiar with.
Many moms (myself included) look to add income to their family finances while also staying at home with their children.
There are obviously a variety of reasons for doing this. Whether it is that you don’t wish to work outside of the home. You can’t afford daycare costs. Or, perhaps you just need a creative outlet.
No matter the reason, it can still be challenging to find an income stream that suits the needs of your family.
As moms we are busy. Like super duper all-the-time kind of busy.
Finding something that brings in an income while also allowing us to be at home with our children is like finding a piece of gold.
I’ve put together a list of 10 ways to make money as a stay at home mom. Some of them I’ve tried myself, while others are jobs that I’ve found friends doing or recommending.
I hope that something on this list works for you and allows you the financial freedom that you’re looking for.
10 Stay at Home Mom Jobs to Look Into:
#1 Start a Blog
I started blogging seriously two years ago when I started Christine Keys, my parenting blog.
It wasn’t just about money for me, but that was definitely a reason for why I started.
In truth, I actually attempted to make money from blogging before I even gave birth to my first child. But, I had no clue what I was doing and my heart wasn’t in it.
I spent time putting together content but had absolutely no idea how to market it or how to have a strategy of any kind.
Flash forward to after I had my second child and I desperately needed some kind of creative outlet.
I was struggling with postpartum depression and it turned out that blogging was a huge help in overcoming that.
If you are even remotely interested in what blogging entails, then take the opportunity to navigate around this blog.
I’ve shared plenty of content related to blogging and how to make it work as well as a post dedicated to teaching you how to start a blog.
It is an amazing career path if it is your kind of thing.
It gives me the creative outlet that I need while also providing me with a challenge. I am motivated daily to push harder and reach more goals.
Currently, I’m making around $600-$700 per month and that is steadily growing.
I know other bloggers from all kinds of niche’s that are making anywhere from 4-6 figure incomes every month.
If you have ever wondered if blogging is worthwhile, my answer is yes. Totally!
It is super affordable to start (like it costs basically nothing!) and so you have very little to lose.
#2 Become a Virtual Assistant
What on earth is a virtual assistant?
The Balance Small Business defines it as:
A person who provides support services to other businesses from a remote location.
So really, a virtual assistant can do basically anything that they want to.
Many bloggers hire virtual assistants to run certain aspects of their blogs such as their social media, editing, etc.
However, the role is not limited to just working for bloggers. Not at all! That is just one instance that I know of.
Think about what your skills are and how you can best offer them. Look for Facebook groups for virtual assistants and you’ll find ways to market your services.
#3 Start an Etsy Shop
I have an Etsy shop, but I’m gonna be real and say that I put little to no effort into it.
However, I still make at least a couple sales a month which makes it a very passive income source.
Creating an Esty shop is a brilliant idea if you have some kind of product you can create and sell.
Really, the possibilities are endless! I create and sell digital products such as templates, checklists, and printable art.
However, you can totally sell physical items as well.
If you are creative in any way then this could very well be a great income source for you.
Etsy is in and of itself and whole system to learn, but I know that there are moms out there that have turned their Etsy shops into viable businesses.
Whether you just want to make a few dollars on the side, or you’re interested in generating a more substantial income, go and do your homework.
Find out if there is a market for the product you wish to sell and then learn the ins and outs of the Etsy market.
#4 Work for VIP Kids
VIP Kids is an online income opportunity that I have seen many mamas taking advantage of.
And it is no surprise because it is a really straightforward and simple way of making an income from home.
So, what is VIP Kids?
It is an online tutoring service where you can become a teacher who then tutors students online.
They have created an entire platform that works to make that process happen.
You are paid per class that you teach and the payment is between $7-$9 plus incentives.
Teachers are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree but the program is open anywhere so long as you have a stable internet connection.
Classes are only 25 minutes long so it is definitely workable into most mom’s routines.
#5 Do Freelance Work
This is not all that different from being a virtual assistant, but it can give you even more flexibility.
Are you good at writing, graphic design, photography?
What skills do you have that people will pay for?
There are plenty of moms out there who make money from writing guest posts for blogs and other publications.
Upwork is an up-and-coming platform that gives freelancers a brilliant, monitored platform where they can find jobs.
People looking for freelancers post the job that they’re looking to have someone complete and then you can apply to fill the position.
Better yet, they provide the surety that you will be paid on time and fairly.
This can be particularly helpful when you are just starting out and everything is new to you.
#6 Become a Medical Transcriptionist
This job does require some training before you can actually do it.
However, being a medical transcriptionist is definitely a viable income source for stay-at-home moms.
If you are already a decent typist then that’s a great skill to start off with. However, you will need to do some online training before you can be considered as an entry-level candidate.
The hours are flexible and you’ll be able to work as much or as little as you choose.
So, what exactly do you do as a medical transcriptionist?

#7 Nanny
If you’re already at home with your child/ren then it is not unreasonable to consider taking on more children to care for.
Whether that is for someone you know personally, advertising locally, or going through a third-party.
It is definitely a great way of being able to make some extra money.
Plus, you’ll have very little (if any) start-up costs because you already have children’s equipment at home.

It is nice to know that your child will be getting more one-on-one care and playmates at the same time.
#8 Multi-Level Marketing
I’ll be honest and say that I’m not a huge fan of direct sales and multi-level marketing.
Not because I think they’re awful, but because I’ve tried it and quite frankly, blogging is so. much. better.
With that said, I know that blogging is not for everyone and there is definitely a place for direct sales.
I personally worked with Jamberry for some time, but the company looks quite different to how it was when I was there.

There are plenty more out there, but I know that those ones are legitimate and that moms have had genuine success making an income through them.
The only caution I would give is to do your research and make sure they are a reputable company that is generous with their commissions.
#9 Bookkeeping
If you’re good with numbers or have some background in accounting of any sort, then bookkeeping could be a great fit for you.
Many companies are looking to outsource someone to track all of their financial transactions and accounts.
It saves them a ton of time while also providing you with an income source. Win-win!
You do not have to be qualified in order to work as a bookkeeper, but you can definitely invest in certain training.
For instance, becoming an expert in a specific accounting software will increase your value.
As with all of the jobs that I have listed previously, bookkeeping can also be done at home. The hours are flexible and fairly regular and you can be picky about who you work for.
There are definitely perks to this kind of job and it is worth looking into if you think it might work for you.
Again, as with many of the jobs I listed, bookkeeping requires very little as far as start-up costs go.
#10 Teach a Skill
This one is for all of you clever people out there who have a skill that you can teach others.
Think outside of the box on this one. It doesn’t have to be something that you have to have people in your home for.
You could create a course online or become an online coach.
There are many online consulting services that are doing extremely well.
Can you play a musical instrument? If so, consider advertising locally for students.
Are you an artist? Perhaps you could consider hosting workshops or creating lessons online. You could even start a blog *wink wink*
And if you don’t feel comfortable teaching, then use the skills you have. Do you realize how many people cannot sew a button onto a shirt these days?
Advertise mending services or even ironing if you don’t mind adding that to your schedule.
There are about a million ways to make money, it is just finding what works for you and the needs of your family.
