Besides that, technology can be a wonderful way to encourage thinking and creativity in our children.
I used to be guilty of thinking that I wasn’t a creative person because I didn’t spend hours painting or drawing. I laugh about it now because I can see what creativity truly is.
While I may not draw and paint, I love graphic design. It is a creative and artistic outlet.
We don’t have to limit ourselves or our children by simply banning technology from our homes.
Instead, with wisdom and respect we can use the tool of technology to enhance their education and encourage their love of learning.
So many adults make a living from using computers and online tools. I mean, I wouldn’t be here sharing my thoughts as a homeschool content creator if it weren’t for technology! When we embrace tools and respect them, then we can be empowered to use them well.
What to Expect from MYTEK LAB

I’ll be the first to acknowledge that I have only a basic knowledge of computers and all that they can do. Mostly, I’ve learned what I needed when I needed the information.

So, how does it work?
These are online courses for children aged 8+. MYTEK LAB offers courses that are labeled as Flexi Pace. This means that your child can start the class at any time during the year and take it at their own place.
One class is released weekly with its own assignment. The classes are live classes which are then posted to the dashboard so they can be accessed at any point in time. There are no due dates on assignments so that students can really get a grasp on what they’re being taught instead of hurrying to finish the task.
Classes are live but the video recording is then uploaded to the student portable where they can easily access it.
This means that you do not have to be in the same time zone to use this curriculum.
There is a parent/teacher login as well as a separate student login. This is great for being able to track your student’s progress.

What Will You Need?
The great thing about MYTEK LAB is how little your student needs. Each course will give you a heads-up about the tools required, but for the Computer Technology course, all that is needed is a device, a web browser, and an internet connection.
This makes it very easy to access and use, which is always a big plus for busy homeschool families.
Our Experience MYTEK LAB
This was a very different online course to that which I’ve had the privilege of using before as far as the subject matter goes.
I wasn’t sure what it would look like or how it would work. However, I’ve been very pleased with what MYTEK LAB offers.
The teachers are encouraging and great at motivating students.
My son is 8 years old and so just fits into their age range for their class on computer technology. He has a little computer knowledge, but not all that much.
He loved that this was a subject he could have some independence with. I could set up the dashboard for him and then let him listen to the class on his own.
Because it’s something that can be replayed, he can very easily have me go back over anything he didn’t understand the first time.
I appreciate how easy the dashboard is to work with. Everything is clearly labelled and there weren’t any weird glitches or slow loading times.
The teacher was lovely and engaging while also encouraging students to really work to achieve good results.
Who Is This Best For?
MYTEK LAB is a great option for homeschool families looking for a computer science education or even just something to teach basic computer skills. This is particularly good as a self-study course for high school students.
If you want something that your students can take at their own pace, then this is a good choice. We also know that often the best way to learn something is to do it. Thankfully, MYTEK LAB uses assignments to do just that. So, if you have a student who learns well by doing, then this is a good option for them.
Families who travel or do school away from home a lot will benefit from having online access to these classes. Homeschool lessons don’t always look like a family sitting around a table. Therefore, having accessibility to learning is a big plus.
If you want to encourage critical thinking about online tools then I would consider having your child go through one of these courses. It’s also a great choice if your child has a natural curiosity about digital tools. You can increase their digital literacy without worrying about what they might be exposed to in the process.
Finally, if you’re not a techie homeschool mom then this is a really wonderful option. You can help your child continue on their educational journey without actually having to have all the head knowledge yourself.

How Technology Can Be Beneficial in Your Homeschool
I’m definitely not someone who loves to bring a whole lot of screentime into our homeschool, but there are definitely benefits to using it in some scenarios. Adding in a homeschool technology education is important to me.
For instance, coding, graphic design, or video editing. All are things that involve the use of technology and also can be greatly beneficial for our kids.

Personally, we use technology for studying things such as art, music, literature, science, and so much more! It doesn’t mean that my kids are having screentime all day long, but it is injected into our days here and there.
