Using an online math curriculum wasn’t something that was readily available back when I was homeschooled. I mean, we were still using dial-up internet in those days! It would have been incredibly helpful though.

As a homeschool mom, high school math scares me a little because I’m not sure I’ll be clued up enough to teach it well to my kids. Having online options is a welcome relief to me!

Today I’m sharing my CTCMath review so that you can learn a little about this great online math curriculum.

There is never going to be a single homeschool curriculum that works for every family or even for every child. With that in mind, you need to do your own research.

I can share my thoughts on this online curriculum but you need to go and check it out for yourself to make sure it’ll be the right fit.

With that said, we did give CTCMath a go and I’m going to share about what it is and what we thought about it.

What is CTCMath?

CTC Math is an online math curriculum that caters to grades K-12.

With that said, we did give CTCMath a go and I’m going to share about what it is and what we thought about it. It is self-paced and can be used as a full curriculum or a supplement for extra practice.

For the sake of this review, I’ll be talking about their homeschool family membership which is very affordable. You can read more about it over on their website.

How Does CTCMath Work?

CTCMath is made up of video lessons, interactive questions, as well as helpful practice worksheets.

There is both a parent/teacher login and a student login.

From the parent page, you can easily see at a glance, the progress that your student is making. Students are able to find their lessons with ease and follow along.

There are detailed reports available based on the lessons and assessments that your child has taken.

The video lessons are very easy to understand and I like that they use items that you can find in real life to demonstrate their points.

For instance, they use a picture of a base ten block when talking about place value and it looks exactly like the physical ones we own.

There are assessments available for when your child first begins the curriculum so that they can be placed at the correct level.

Video lessons are able to be paused and gone back over if your child needs to which is very helpful when concepts are a little more difficult to grasp.

The lessons are set out first with the video and then a second tab goes to the questions. This is where your child can show their comprehension of the lesson they just went through.

Our Experience with CTCMath

My son is only in first grade and, to be honest, I was apprehensive about him trying out an online program. However, my expectations were far exceeded by this great curriculum.

My son loves math. It is by far his favorite subject and he cottons on really quickly to new math concepts. In saying that, we’ve always used a physical curriculum and so I wasn’t sure how he would do with working on a computer.

We both found the program interface to be very user-friendly. The pages were fast to load and the outlay was simple enough to find what you need without getting overwhelmed.

Even at age 6, my son was able to be fairly independent with the lessons, only needing my help occasionally. Even then, it was mostly about figuring out the use of the computer and not the curriculum itself.

My son isn’t a fluent reader yet so I found it very helpful that there was audio assistance for the math questions. It definitely makes it more of an independent curriculum.

We have a math curriculum that we love and so CTCMath was not something we used exclusively. However, my son did lessons in the evening and actually asked for them after using it for the first time.

He really enjoyed them and found the videos really helpful for working through the lessons.

I think it’s a wonderful curriculum not only for those looking for something exclusive but also as a fun supplemental tool.

The lessons are short and sweet which was perfect for his age and development.

As for right now, we will continue using the physical math curriculum that we have because we love it. However, I am very much considering CTCMath for the higher years of math.

I can see it being the perfect option for us, especially because my children are all so close in age.

Who This Curriculum Would Work For…

If you are a family who travels and wants something that you can easily access with a computer and wifi then this curriculum will work great for you.
If you’re teaching many children and need a more independent curriculum then this one is worth checking out.

If you want to fill in learning gaps or give your child more practice, CTCMath is a very helpful option.

Final Thoughts

Not all online curriculums are made equal, and some will work for one family and not for another. In my opinion, CTCMath is a very solid curriculum that is easy to navigate and wonderfully affordable.
