As a mom to three little ones, I love to make special memories but not at the expense of my sanity (avoiding burnout is a constant challenge)!

In truth, we’ve never put a heavy emphasis on days like this but there are times when it is fun to join in on the festivities and make it part of your homeschool day.

#1 Write a Note To All of Your Kids
This is a Valentine’s Day tradition that my mum did when I was little.
She would write a love note to each one of her children and leave it on their beds.
It was so special to have those words of affirmation from my mum. Even though I knew she loved me unconditionally, I never got tired of having it reinforced.
Sometimes she would also include a small treat with the note, but honestly, the note by itself was more than enough to make us all feel super special.
Another idea along these lines that I’ve seen is sticking paper hearts with things you love about your child on their bedroom door the night before.
Then in the morning they can wake up to them.
Or, you could stick one heart up every night starting February 1st. That’s taking more of an advent calendar approach, but is a fun alternative.
#2 Create Heart Cards
If you have younger children then a fun thing to do is to create heart-shaped cards and have them write letters to those they love.
It could be a letter to their siblings, grandparents, aunts, etc, etc.
Who they want to give it to is totally up to your family but it is a really simple way to have a craft in your homeschool day and also turn it into an act of service.

There are a multitude of different Valentine’s Day gifts that kids can make to gift to others.

We used to melt chocolate and put them in little chocolate molds. We’d then decorate a box and make our own box of chocolates to gift to someone.

Where did Valentine’s Day originate? You may or may not know the answer yourself and it is such a fun subject to delve into.
This one is particularly good because you can tailor the depth of the study depending on the ages of your kids.

I’m not a crafty mom. I don’t love glitter and a free-range toddler with a paintbrush gives me heart palpatations.

While giving gifts is a sweet idea one of the most meaningful things you can do with your children is to serve others.

I would encourage your children to think about where they’ve seen areas of need and how they can address it.
Love is action and this is a very effective way of allowing your children to show love and learn the blessing that comes from serving others.
