Homeschool Organization Ideas You Need to Know About

Homeschool organization is something that is super important for our home because we don’t have a lot of space.

Keeping things organized means that there is far less fluffing about when it comes to actually doing the work because I know where everything is.

It also means that I spend less money because I’m more aware of what supplies I have on hand.

Overall, it keeps our homeschool space clear of clutter and more available to creativity and learning.

The Best Homeschool Organization Storage Solutions

Knowing which homeschool organization solutions work best for your situation will help a lot, but I’m listing several items that have really helped to keep our homeschool organized.

#1 Bookshelf

I do wonder if there are any homeschoolers who do not own a bookshelf in some capacity.

For many years, we didn’t have the space for one, but we now have two and I love them so much.

Both of our bookshelves are from IKEA and they work really well for housing many of our homeschool supplies.

The first one that we have has doors on the lower half, so I can store more unsightly supplies that I don’t necessarily want the world to see.

Our second bookshelf is in our living area and it is where all of our chapter books and read alouds go.

I stack all of our library books on the bottom shelf so that my children have easy access to anything they might like to read.

#2 Baskets

I collect baskets like I collect throw cushions. In my opinion, you can never have enough.

Baskets are perfect for organizing all manner of homeschool supplies and I love that you can have them on bookshelves and in other storage solotions.

It often means that your homeschool can be more mobile as you can take supplies from room to room (or even outside!) without much issue.

#3 Binder Files

Binders are a wonderful way to store loose papers that would otherwise get lost, ruined, or forgotten about.

I especially love using binders to store our curriculum from Let’s Play School.

I use these plastic binder pockets for any cut-out activities and store the instructions and game pages in clear binder sleeves.

#4 Caddies

Caddies are similar to baskets in that they can make carting supplies around so much easier.

They’re also a great way to organize and separate supplies from each other.

We have a caddy that houses all of our coloring and cutting supplies.

It makes it super easy when we’re doing school because everything is just in one place.

You don’t have to go crazy or get a super big one. Ours is on the smaller side and has done us just fine for the past year or so of homeschooling.

#5 Trolley

Having a homeschool cart is a thing now, apparently.

I remember it before it was considered cool…way back when I was a homeschool kid myself.

My mom bought 4 trolleys for all four of us kids and we stored our homeschool curriculum in there.

Seriously though, they’re honestly great and a good investment for your homeschool storage and organization.

I store our most frequently used homeschool curriculum on the top of ours and art supplies on the bottom two tiers.

There are so many ways that you can use them to make life a whole lot easier.

Plus, they’re really great if you don’t have a designated homeschool space and would prefer not to clutter up your living area with school supplies.

You can simply hide them away when they’re not in use.

#6 Digital Storage

This list of homeschool organization ideas would not be complete without a mention of digital storage.

In a world where SO MANY homeschool curriculum and resources can be accessed in digital format, it’s important to keep organized in this area as well.

The way that I personally do this is to have a homeschooling folder and then folders for each grade level.

I also have folders for seasonal resources.

We pay for unlimited storage with Google Drive, so I never have to worry about clogging up my computer with all those resources.

#7 Planner

Keeping your homeschool organized goes beyond storage solutions for sure.

For me, putting pen to paper helps me immensely with lowering my mental load and just helping things to go more smoothly overall.

#8 A Homeschool Schedule

I am a schedule person. I always have been, but homeschooling has helped me to become a lot more flexible.

Well, homeschooling…and my toddler.

You see, we have to work around her sleep schedule a lot of the time.

In saying all of that, having a visual chart to be able to track our progress throughout the day is super helpful for not just myself, but my kids as well.
